Awake My Soul : A Poem for Mental Health

Awake my soul

From frozen darkness and blackness of night

Shards of light beckon you

Towards another world

Eyes blinking open

Torpor dominates and envelops

Songbirds sing many miles from here

A faint reminder

Of another world

Body of lead

Heavy

Magnetic mattress

Holds me down

I wrestle with the demons in my head

Bullies and liars

Violent critics

Feeling like forceful fists in my face

The most silent of voices

Filling my lungs with each new breath

Beckons me to stillness of awareness

And another world penetrated with Eternal Light
